Record number of Brits over 55 now own smartphones and tablets

Research from Kantar Media TGI shows that over 55 year olds in Britain are becoming increasingly tech savvy, with a 10% point increase in the number who have a smartphone and a 9% point increase in the number who have a tablet, compared to last year.

27% of over 55s now own a smartphone and 15% now own a tablet. Unsurprisingly, these figures are significantly smaller than those for people aged 15-34 years old, with 82% of people in that age bracket owning a smartphone and 29% a tablet.

When asked about internet usage, the Kantar Media TGI data shows a high number of older people are now using the internet for things like: emails, paying bills and comparing prices.
