Peak tweets as Andy Murray wins again

The BBC's Sports Personality of the Year show on Sunday 18th December 2016 was the most Tweeted broadcast for the entire week with over 62.3M impressions generated.

The peak moment occurred, unsurprisingly, when world number one, Andy Murray won the award for the third year. Over 16,000 Tweets were sent when it was announced that he had won.

40% of all Tweets were positive with admiration and joy being the most prevalent emotions. One of the top Hashtags was #LCFC as Leicester City were named team of the year 2016 with over 4,000 Tweets mentioning this Hashtag.

Elsewhere, on Tuesday 13th December, David Walliams hosted The Royal Variety Performance. It landed at the number one spot on the social TV leaderboard with 17,611 Tweets for the broadcast and over 20,000 outside for the whole day.

A performance of The Christmasaurus, a book written by McFly's Tom Fletcher was the second most used hashtag, whilst his handle was the most mentioned with 14% of all Tweets mentioning @tomfletcher. With over 11,000 unique authors, The Royal Variety Performance was definitely a hit on Twitter.

Finally, the second most Tweeted programme of the week was the Strictly Come Dancing final 2016 on Saturday 17th December, with 71,938 Tweets sent overall, and just under 2,000 Tweets when Ore was crowned the winner.
