Hampton Court Flower Show flourishes on Twitter

Kantar Twitter TV Ratings for the week commencing 03rd July

Twitter chatter around the largest flower show in the world blossomed this week, with 20.2K Total Tweets and 33.4K likes.

Monty Don, accompanied by Joe Swift, explored the environmental focus of the Hampton Court Palace Flower Show and was mentioned in 3.9% of related Tweets across the week. Twitter Users were buzzing with excitement, with Positive Sentiment detected in 42.3% of all Twitter activity around the Flower Show, and over 33K Tweets liked across the week.

Although the biggest Broadcast Window chatter was around Wednesday’s coverage, which attracted 1.1M Viewers, it was Tuesday 04 July that saw the most Tweets, with the reveal of the People’s Choice award winners sparking 5.0K across the day, helping the show to reach 6th place on our 24/7 Leaderboard.

Overall, this scenic summer show generated a substantial Twitter response across the week from a varied demographic with impressive gardens, marquees, and a forward-facing approach to the future of gardening.

Elsewhere, an explosive BBC documentary exposing the Rochdale grooming scandal that had been buried for years, contributed to heated debates on Monday evening 03 July, and accounted for 13.3K Tweets and 5.1M Impressions within the Broadcast Window. The Betrayed Girls has been the only documentary that made it to the Top Ten on our Leaderboard this month.

The documentary telling the story of underage teen girls who were drugged and then violently raped by older men spiked nearly 28% Tweets containing Criticism. The peak minute occurred outside the Broadcast Window at 22.12 while Tweeters contested the issue of the scandal being dropped as not to exasperate race relations. The most spoken of was Sara Rowbotham, a sexual health worker who revealed the ongoing scandal - #sararowbotham was mentioned 212 times in the Twitter chatter which was second biggest hashtag. A staggering 92.1% of Tweeters were aged over 35 and the majority were male (57.7%).

Overall, The Betrayed Girls reached 9th place on our weekly Leaderboard and contributed to 2.7% of all Social conversations on Monday.
